Frequently Asked Questions
The best course of action is to select a private lesson instructor (a senior coach from The Rinks Poway ICE’s staff) and let them know that you would like to participate in the Holiday On Ice skating recital. From there, your private lesson instructor will help you with everything from scheduling lessons, to editing music (usually necessary), choreographing a program and selecting a costume! Our staff is available and always willing to help educate skaters and parents.
If a skater does not have a private lesson coach, they may ask any coach of their choice. A good recommendation is to ask your class coach as they are already familiar with your child’s skating level. If you are undecided or need help getting paired with a private lesson instructor, please contact the Skating Director, Kristen Perdue at kperdue@therinks.com.
A skater can choose to participate in a solo, a duet (2 skaters) or small ensemble (3-4 skaters). Coordinate with your private lesson instructor to determine which options is best for your skater.
Participating in this event teaches the skater what it is like to perform in front of an audience and gives them the experience they need to move on to competitions or shows. Additionally, skating in a show helps boost confidence and build friendships through athleticism and performance!
Your private lesson coach will help you decide what music to skate to and what outfit will best match the music. Music that is related to your preferred holiday (ie: Christmas, Hannukah, etc) is encouraged, but not required. Long skirts that end below the knees are not recommended for beginner skaters. Ultimately, skating in an show like this is all about your skater’s self-expression, however, it is always best to have an experienced instructor to help guide you in making the best choices so that the skater feels well prepared for their big day!
Yes, skate rental is included for a skater who might need skates for this event.
As soon as the skater arrives, they should check-in at the registration table located near the entrance of the rink. The registration table is where skaters check in and be directed as to which locker room(s) they may utilize. We recommend arriving at least 45 minutes before that start of our Holiday Recital dressed in their costume. They will be able to tie their skates and meet their instructor for any last-minute details before going onto the ice.
You are more than welcome to video or take photos of your skater’s performance(s). Take photos of your skater with their coach and friends after they’ve finished performing so they can be posted on the accomplishment board!
This event will be ticketed. Check back later for more information on admission prices!
