Skating Staff Guide

All Skating Professionals are independent contractors who use the Poway ICE facility to teach private lessons. Each Skating Professional sets their own schedules, lesson fees, and coaching policies. Lesson fees will vary depending upon the Skating Professional's qualifications, teaching experience, and PSA Ratings. Coaching Philosophy:
On a personal note, I wanted to skate since I was five years old; however, I wasn't afforded the opportunity until much later in life (early adult). Having had to defer my dreams for many years, I hope to be able to enrich other skater's lives through my experience of perseverance and not allowing obstacles to deter them from achieving their goals. In pursuing my passion, I have had, and continue to have, the privilege of being coached and working with National and International competitors.

To help my students become as successful as possible, I honor their personal goals regardless of age and level. I focus on form, posture, presentation, and an understanding of the technique rather than muscling through the elements. As well, I pay attention to the mental aspect of the sport and will teach students how to overcome obstacles such as fear, frustration, burnout, etc., using sport psychology principles and exercises. Overall, I approach the sport in a holistic sense by integrating sport psychology, nutrition, and various off-ice approaches to help students achieve their goals. I coach students of all ages.

Some of the most influential people in my life have been the skating coaches I trained with, and I understand the importance of being a positive role model for my students. My intention is to instill in people a love of movement, fitness, and performance through the sport and art of figure skating.

I believe that if a student is willing to put in the time and effort, they can achieve anything they put their mind to, despite their age or skill level. Ultimately, my goal is to create a fun learning environment for all of my students so that they can take what they learn and apply it to their lives both on and off the ice.
